The Human Reliance On AI Has Gone Too Far
In a world where AI writes our emails, recommends our news, creates our art, and even listens to our secrets, one question becomes impossible to ignore: When does it go too far? As you browse this website you will read how AI is harming us in ways you might not have thought about before.
Are there positives to AI?
Yes, of course there are. There are many people that argue that artificial intelligence is a necessary and positive force in society. They shed light on its ability to fuel innovation, improve accessibility, and even provide emotional companionship for those who feel isolated.
They claim AI can somehow reduce human bias, perform tasks more accurately than humans, and offer mental health resources to those who may not have access to traditional care. These benefits do deserve recognition but they also raise an important question: "what happens when the same technology meant to help us begins reinforcing bias, replacing real human connection, or failing during moments of crisis?"
The Big Picture Issues
Three main concerns about increasing dependence on AI. First, AI often produces harmful racial and gender biases. Second, emotionally interactive AI can weaken real human relationships by encouraging artificial connection. Finally, relying on AI for guidance especially in a mental health situation can lead to very unsafe outcomes. Together, these issues show that AI’s advancement may be doing more harm than good.
Racial & Gender Bias Issues
AI often reproduces and even amplifies racial, gender, and social biases already present in the data it’s trained on.
AI & Human Relationships
As AI grows more emotionally responsive, people may begin turning to chatbots for comfort, companionship, or validation.
AI & Therapy
When people rely on AI for guidance during vulnerable moments it can lead to harmful outcomes, proving that AI is not equipped to replace professional support.
Artificial Intelligence isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
It's important we embrace AI as a tool but we cannot let it ruin our humanity.
"When I asked an AI model to generate images of a CEO, almost every single one was a white man. That’s not an accident that’s the result of biased data.”
Sasha Luccioni
"As people turn to artificial agents for emotional fulfillment, they risk weakening the development and maintenance of authentic human relationships."
Ciechanowski, Przegalinska, Magnuski, & Grabowski
"These systems should not be viewed as substitutes for human therapists, as they lack the clinical judgment required to respond safely in moments of crisis."
Fiske, Henningsen, & Buyx
